Who we are
TheReportHouse is a small business that makes simple spreadsheet planners and printable checklists, sold on Etsy. Guides are published under the business name, not a person's name.
How we choose topics
We write about the questions people ask when planning a business: costs, break-even numbers, checklists, and what to ask locally. Each guide has to add something useful, such as a worked example, a decision method, a printable, or sourced and dated ranges.
How we pick sources
Primary sources come first: government and official sources, with city or county offices used as examples of where to look. After that come industry associations and named surveys, then reputable companies. When a company doesn't show how it got its numbers, we say so. Every guide lists its sources at the end, with the month each was checked.
How numbers are checked and dated
Figures are checked against the listed sources, and each guide shows when its prices were checked. When no source gives a usable range, we sometimes work one out from sellers' published list prices. Those rows are marked "Our estimate", and the guide shows the prices and the math behind them. If a guide uses a worked example, it uses a made-up business and says so. Ranges are estimates, so check them against your own local quotes. We re-check the prices in each guide at least every six months, and sooner when a source changes, and update the Last updated date when we do. If you spot a number that looks out of date, message us and we'll check it.
How we use AI
Guides are researched and drafted with AI tools. Before a guide is published, a separate AI review checks the facts, figures and links against the original sources, along with the title, description, structured data and image alt text. Each guide says how it was made.
Corrections and updates
If we find an error, we fix it. "Last updated" changes only when the content changes in a meaningful way, such as new cost data, a corrected method or a new section, not for typo fixes.
No paid placements
No one pays to be mentioned in our guides. If we ever include a paid or affiliate link, it will be labelled.
Not professional advice
Our guides are general information, not legal, tax or financial advice. Rules differ by place, so check with your local offices.
